the ants of a colony. a mound on a patch of grass, resembling a palace. a snap of the leaves and the orange of the dirt makes for a monument. and they plow paths within. worship a queen in a cardboard chamber with her daisy crown. encircle a maze of trade routes. an open kingdom and a golden field. the children then bring out the magnifiers, lay toybox glass on society. they walk over it and watch all of it burn, into smithereens.
